Health Insurance for Residents of Virginia

Please be sure to review the main Health Insurance tab for more information. Residents of the State of Virginia are not required to purchase their health insurance on a public exchange, such as the District of Columbia. The State of Virginia did not establish a State Health Benefit Exchange, therefore residents of states that elected not to establish a State Exchange default to HealthCare.gov which, is the Federal Governments Health Benefit Exchange.  If you feel that your household income qualifies for a subsidy, you can only process a request for a Subsidy through the Exchange. Please review Tax Household income levels that may qualify for a subsidy listed in the chart on the main Health Insurance tab. If your income does not qualify for a subsidy there is no need to enroll in a health plan by using the Exchange. If you are not seeking a Subsidy you may apply and enroll in coverage off-exchange, which many people feel is an easier process and enrollment. The plans offered and pricing is the same ‘on’ or ‘off’ Exchange for those who do not qualify for a Subsidy.
